If you are like me, and like to experiment with WordPress, you might find yourself needing to reset your WordPress from time to time. Whether you are testing new designs, troubleshooting issues, or simply starting over, this is usually a good solution instead of reinstalling WordPress all together. Whatever your reason is, you have come to the right place.

In this guide, we will go through how to reset a WordPress Site in less than 3 minutes using WP Reset plugin.

Why Use WP Reset plugin?

WP Reset is powerful plugin that allows you to reset your WordPress site to its default state without reinstalling WordPress or deleting files manually. Although it has a premium version, the free version is sufficient for this process.  WP Reset is useful for:

  • Starting your website over on a clean slate.
  • Removing test content and configurations.
  • Fixing major site errors.

Step 1: Install and activate WP Reset

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
  2. On the left sidebar, click on Plugins then click Add New Plugin.
  3. In the search field, type WP Reset and press Enter.
  4. Click Install Now.
  5. Once installed, click on Activate.

WP Reset should appear on the list of downloaded plugins after successful installation.

Step 2: Reset your WordPress site using WP Reset.

  1. On the left sidebar on your WordPress dashboard, click on Tools then WP Reset.
  2. Select the Reset tab at the top then scroll down to the Site Reset section.
  3. In the confirmation field, type reset then click Reset site.
  4. A confirmation pop-up message will appear asking if you are sure that you want to reset the site. Confirm by clicking on Reset WordPress.

Your WordPress site will reset and redirect to your WordPress dashboard.

Step 3: Delete Themes and Plugins

WP Reset has successfully deactivated your WordPress themes and plugins too. However, they are still there. If you would like to delete them, follow the following steps.

Delete All Themes

  1. Click on Tools on the left sidebar of your WordPress dashboard and then click WP Reset.
  2. Select the Tools Tab at the top of the page.
  3. Click on Delete Themes or scroll down to the Delete Themes section.
  4. Click the Delete all themes button.
  5. A pop-up message will appear asking you whether you want to delete all themes. Click on the Delete all themes button to proceed.

You have now successfully deleted all themes on your WordPress site.

Delete All Plugins

  1. Still in the Tools tab of WP Reset, click on Delete Plugins or navigate to the Delete Plugins section.
  2. Click the Delete plugins button.
  3. A popup message will appear asking you if you want to delete all plugins. Proceed by clicking the Delete plugins button.

You have now successfully deleted all plugins in your WordPress site.
